These files are extremely small and thus many backups can be made without much waste. In the My Documents\My Games\Dawn of War 2\Saved Games folder you can find your save file and copy it. The game is not designed for multiple saves, and this can be frustrating for some gamers, but there is a way around this. Early on, it's unimportant, but later in the campaign, time sensitive quests will pop up, and Tyranid infestation levels will rise on every day in which you have not completed a mission on that planet.

The basic leapfrog attack formation works for a few reasons. Attack formations vary depending on the enemy, but you usually want to have your heavy gunners attack first, from a distance, forming your front line, then move in your melee-oriented guys (usually Thaddeus and Force Commander), well supported. Many ranged attacks will give you a few seconds warning to get out of the way, so being able to quickly select the unit you need with the number keys and move him helps a great deal. Unlike most RTS games, there's a constant need to independently move each squad. The first important thing to lean is how to juggle your squads. In many ways, this is very basic and action-oriented.
This means all of the strategy is focused on how you approach and attack. In the campaign mode, you'll be limited to four squads on all but a few occasions. This isn't your basic real-time strategy game.
